Marriage is intimate, exclusive, indissoluble communion of life and love, entered by man and woman at the design of the Creator for the purposes of their own good and the procreation and education of children. In other words, God invented marriage, not man. By creating us male and female, God inscribed the call to marriage in our very being. This is not the truth just for Catholics but for all persons. It’s the way were made.
This covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. Much more than just a contract, it is a covenant between a husband and wife. As such, the love between a husband and wife should point to the love God has for his people. By faithfully living their marriage covenant, couples help build the Kingdom of God by making manifest his love.
