What made you decide to start teaching?
lways thought I would be a coach and teaching goes hand in hand with coaching.
What kind of transformation have you seen in kids from the first day of school to the last day?
Middle school age kids change at what seems a drastic pace in all aspects. I love the challenge of keeping young people on track to becoming the best version of themselves. Being around this age provides a natural optimism and wonder that enriches my life.
Describe the importance of a prayer life in relation to teaching.
As my prayer life has grown so has my ability to maneuver through the school day. Learning to step up or to let go are important skills when dealing with students. Prayer helps to discern the difference in response to students.
Why do you enjoy teaching at a Catholic school?
I'm blessed to come from a devout Catholic family and am somewhat a product of Catholic education in my elementary years. I believe the Augustinian philosophy of education is the best approach to learning.
How do you cultivate positive relationships with your students and create a sense of class community?
One of our core values is unity. Being of one mind in the pursuit of the truth. I try to convey to my students that I care about them and will help them to grow as people and develop as students.
