FROM: Most Rev. David A. Konderla, Bishop of Tulsa
TO: Priests, Deacons, Religious, Seminarians, Deacon Candidates, and Chancery Personnel
DATE: April 6, 2017, Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent
It is with great joy that we receive the news that the Holy See today announced the appointment of
Rev. Msgr. Daniel H. Mueggenborg, pastor of the Parish of Christ the King in the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma, as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Seattle, Washington.
Msgr. Mueggenborg was born in Okarche, Okla. on April 15, 1962, the same hometown as Father Stanley Rother, who will be beatified on Sept. 23
rd in Oklahoma City. He attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a B.S. in Geology (1980-1984). In pursuit of his priestly vocation, he attended St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana (1984-1985) and the Pontifical North American College in Rome, where he received a Bachelor in Sacred Theology and a Licentiate in Biblical Theology both at the Gregorian University (1985-1990).
He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Tulsa in 1989, and since then, he has been assigned as Associate Pastor to St. John before the Latin Gate in Bartlesville and St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Tulsa; teacher and chaplain at Bishop Kelley High School; Parish Administrator at St. Pius X; Pastor of the Church of the Madalene; Pastor of St. Clement in Bixby; and Director of Admissions, Vice Rector for Administration, and Vice Rector for Seminary Life at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.
In addition to these assignments, Msgr. Mueggenborg has been Chaplain of the Tulsa University Newman Center; Adjunct Professor at St. Gregory’s College University/Pastoral Studies Institutes; Adjunct Professor at the Gregorian University; Director of Clergy Education; Director of the Diocesan Synod; Director of Pastoral Renewal; Adjunct Professor at the Religion Department at The University of Tulsa and has served on multiple boards in the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma.
He is the second priest from the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma to be appointed bishop. In 2016, Oklahoma native Msgr. Peter Wells was appointed a Titular Archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio to South Africa. These appointments are a great statement of confidence from the Holy Father for the Church in Eastern Oklahoma, and the appointment of Msgr. Mueggenborg will only strengthen our communion with the universal Church.
We congratulate Msgr. Mueggenborg on his appointment and knowing we will miss him, we wish him a fruitful ministry in the Archdiocese of Seattle.
