NAME: Carla Victor
SCHOOL: Saint Catherine Catholic School
GRADE: Kindergarten
LENGTH OF SERVICE: 14 years at St. Catherine; 9 years in Kindergarten
What is your favorite part about teaching?
I love the sheer excitement my students have when they learn something or experience something for the first time! They bring so much energy to the classroom. Some days,
that is a challenge; but mostly it is contagious!
Describe how you felt the first day you ever taught a class.
I remember feeling very nervous, especially with my first day teaching Kindergarten.
How do you connect your lesson plans to the real world?
Kindergarteners are all about the real world. So, it’s pretty easy to keep the lessons grounded in the real world.
How do you keep your students engaged and motivated?
I try to mix routine with variety in my lessons. It’s a delicate balance. Once the routines have been established, I can introduce new activities to keep the learning experience fresh.
What could parents do to help support you in your job?
Have dinner at the table as a family and talk about the day, read to your children every day, and teach them about God by praying together and going to Mass.
