Why is teaching important to you?
I have always had a special place in my heart for children, and believe that every child is a gift from God. Since high school, I have worked summer camps, summer school, and tutored children.
I have a degree in Special Education and taught at The Little Lighthouse. I found my true teaching home when my children attended St. Pius X Catholic School. I have teaching certificates in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Sharing and caring, love and learning, that is why teaching is important to me.
What is your favorite memory of being a teacher? My favorite teaching memory is teaching my students "The Lord's Prayer" in sign language, and watching them sign that prayer during their kindergarten Mass.
How to you encourage parents to support their children in education? I encourage parents to READ! READ! READ! to and with their children as much as possible. To nurture a love of reading is so very important.
What are some of your favorite school traditions? Praying "The Lord's Prayer" in sign language during kindergarten Mass; making gingerbread boy cookies and hunting for them throughout the school classrooms when the cookies escape from the oven!
What is your favorite book to either read or assign to students? Max Lucado is one of my favorite authors.
You are Special is my favorite book of his to read to my students. It has a beautiful message about loving yourself for who you are, and to trust in our maker, God the Father.
