The Satanic group which calls itself Dakhma of Angra Mainyu has not retreated from its plan to offer a kind of Black Mass in Oklahoma City on September 21.
I am profoundly relieved that this group has returned to Archbishop Coakley the consecrated Host which they intended to desecrate, but am still concerned that they have not backed away from all the other blasphemies and sacrileges involved in this ritual worship of Satan. Public worship of the Devil brings the dark powers of the enemy into the open. It legitimizes horrific abuse and normalizes acts of shameful degradation. It poses a spiritual danger to everyone directly or indirectly involved in it, but that same danger threatens every one of our families.
In order to countervail the pollution of our land and our communities through the offering of this Black Mass, I am repeating my request that every parish and mission in the Diocese organize a Eucharistic Holy Hour to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21. Let the faithful gather in the safety of Our Eucharistic Lord whose sacrifice is being mocked and ridiculed that very night!
Wherever possible, I would encourage pastors to promote outdoor Eucharistic processions in order to offer public reparation for the sacrilege of the Black Mass and to reaffirm that our communities belong to Christ.
With this letter I am including:
An announcement to be read from the pulpit this coming Sunday, September 15.
An announcement to be printed in your parish bulletin next Sunday, September 22.
I will send prayers of reparation which you might use in your holy hour early next week via e-mail.
Asking from God his blessing upon you and the faithful whom you serve,
I am,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Edward J. Slattery
Bishop of Tulsa
