Someone important comes to visit us each week, even each day, the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. To arouse gratitude in our hearts and remind us of how amazing this gift is, each year the Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi—the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
We welcome Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist not just into our churches, but into our cities because He is Emmanuel, God with us. The last thing Jesus said before He ascended into Heaven was “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” And the joy of this promise kept overflows our churches and spills out into the world. We carry His presence to the public, into the streets. We adore Him with all our vigor, singing, playing instruments, and parading with Him, as He walks with us. We greet the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, strewing flowers before Him, preparing elaborate stational altars and praising Him with all our might because there is something greater here, greater than popes or presidents; greater than sovereigns or celebrities. We name Him Wonder Counselor, God hero, Father forever, Prince of Peace.
Every parish can and should exuberantly celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi this year, but ALL are invited to celebrate the Diocesan Corpus Christi Mass and procession on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Holy Family Cathedral at 5 pm with celebrant Bishop Konderla.
