Harrison Garlick. Chancellor and In-House Counsel for the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma, announced today that Bishop Konderla, in consultation with a diocesan search committee, has hired Dr. Christine Myers as the new Director of Religious Formation for the Diocese of Tulsa & Eastern Oklahoma.
Dr. Myers comes to the Chancery well-formed in the Faith and well-versed in practical ministry. She holds a PhD in theology from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Washington DC along with a Masters in Theology & Christian Ministry with certification in catechetics from Franciscan University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University in English and Secondary Education. From 2010 to 2015, she underwent spiritual formation with the Secular Institute of Notre-Dame de Vie in France and Germany. For the last five years, she has been serving as the Director of RCIA & Adult Education and has a wide-range of practical experience in parish religious formation.
Her first day at the Chancery will be
Monday, December 16th for a brief orientation before Christmas and then afterward will be in a season of listening and learning visiting diocesan leaders and catechists throughout the Church in Eastern Oklahoma.
Religious Formation Dr. Myers, as the Director of Religious Formation, will bring together the various practical ministries at the Chancery--Youth, Young Adult, Campus Ministry, Family Life, Pro-Life, NFP, RCIA, Engaged Encounter, etc.--into one unified and coordinated department serving our parishes. She will be helping to lead the efforts of the First Priority of our shared diocesan vision, and will work with her peers, Dr. Richard Meloche, President of the Alcuin Institute, and Mr. David Dean, Superintendent of Catholic Schools toward a holistic vision of catechesis in the Diocese.
Hispanic/Spanish-Speaking Ministries Finally, many efforts are presently underway to incorporate Hispanic ministries and bilingual opportunities throughout the Chancery. After a spate of recent hires, the Chancery has five bilingual persons onsite--up from two approximately a year ago and one the year before that. The Chancery will be taking the next few months to discern how best to incorporate our Hispanic ministries into our Religious Formation efforts and look forward to serving all the People of God in eastern Oklahoma with excellence and fidelity.
