NAME: Kelly Armstrong
SCHOOL: School of St. Mary
GRADE: Fourth
LENGTH OF SERVICE: 31 years
What is your favorite part about teaching?
I love watching students learn and building relationships with them.
Describe how you felt the first day you ever taught a class.
I was so very excited but scared at the same time.
How do you connect your lesson plans to the real world?
Religion always feels like teaching real world experiences because we discuss what the lesson means to fourth graders. I also love connecting writing and social studies by writing letters thanking veterans for Veteran's Day and postcards to families living at a distance telling them what we have been doing in class.
How do you keep your students engaged and motivated?
I find that building those relationships with them helps them feel more motivated.
What could parents do to help support you in your job?
I have always felt supported by parents. The best way for them to support is by checking their assignment notebook to see what we are doing and discussing new religion topics at the dinner table. I would love for 100% of my students to attend church services on the weekend!
